ESTERO, FL – Anthony Peters stopped all 22 shots faced to lift the Florida Everblades to a 4-0 shutout victory over the South Carolina Stingrays at Germain Arena Saturday night.
For the second straight evening, the two teams skated to a scoreless opening period. However, the Everblades (4-0-1-0, 9pts) exploded in the second period for three tallies to take a commanding lead.
Florida’s Logan Roe hurled a shot from the point that was initially stopped by Parker Milner. However, the rebound bounced to the top of the crease and Brendan O’Donnell picked up the puck and flipped a backhanded shot in the top shelf of the net for the game’s first score. O’Donnell’s second goal in as many nights came at 2:33 of the middle frame.
Moments later, Mike Aviani broke in for a scoring chance as he stickhandled the puck to the crease. The puck slid across the blue paint and was then batted into the net by Levko Koper who was standing on the backside of the crease to put the score at 2-0.
One-minute and four-seconds later, Florida scored again, as John McCarron tipped and redirected a Matt Mackenzie shot into the South Carolina net to give Florida the 3-0 edge.
The Everblades went into shutdown mode in what became a physical third period. Anthony Peters was stellar in net, turning aside everything the Stingrays threw his way.
The Everblades added an insurance marker at 14:06 of the final period, when Brant Harris tipped a shot from Mackenzie to seal the 4-0 victory.
Peters earn his fifth career shutout, stopping all 22 shots faced in the contest, while Milner takes the loss allowing four goals on 39 shots faced.
