ESTERO, FL – Olivier Labelle posted a four-point night to help pace the Reading Royals to a 5-2 victory over the Florida Everblades Wednesday night at Germain Arena. Reading snaps the Everblades’ unbeaten streak at 14 games,

Florida got on the board first when Spencer Pommells wristed a shot past Reading goaltender Martin Ouellette at 5:54 of the first period.

The Royals evened the score at halfway through the period.  Maxim Lamarche delivered a shot toward the net that was tipped and redirected into the net bt Olivier Labelle for the goal.

Reading took the lead just minutes into the second period, when Ryan Cruthers centered a pass in the high slot to Brett Flemming.  Flemming wristed a shot that beat Everblades goaltender Matt Ginn to put the Royals on top 2-1.

Matt Marquardt scored nearly two minutes later a shot that skipped off Ouellette’s pad and into the net to put the game at 2-2 after 40 minutes.

Cruthers netted the go-ahead goal at 7:25 of the third.   A quick touch passing play was steered across the crease to a wide open Cruthers on the backside.  Cruthers easily shoved the puck into the net to give Reading a 3-2 lead.

Cruthers’ goal would be all that Reading needed on this night.  The Royals also added two more insurance goals in the final four minutes from Labelle and Patrick Mullane to seal the 5-2 victory over the ‘Blades.

Ouellette earns the win stopping 25 of 27 shots, while Ginn takes the loss allowing four goals on 31 shots faced.

The two teams will meet again at Germain Arena on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
