Orlando Slips Past Everblades in Shootout

ESTERO, FL – Jacob Cepis and Brett Findlay each scored twice to help lift the Orlando Solar Bears to 5-4 shootout victory over the Florida Everblades Saturday night at Germain Arena.Halfway through the first Florida took a 2-0 lead. Alex Lavoie beat goaltender Kent Patterson with a wrister from the slow, while Brant Harris tipped and redirected a Tyson Gimblett shot from the point.

Orlando Brett Findlay pulled the Solar Bears within one when he finished off a perfect pass from Jacob Cepis across the crease.

Solar Bears tied the game up at two at 1:45 of the second when Jacob Cepis buried a second rebound off the pads of Allen York.

The ‘Blades grabbed the lead when newcomer Rob Florentino delivered a breakaway pass to Harris who beat goaltender Sean Bonar on a backhanded shot to put Florida up 3-2.  Bonar came in relief of an injured Patterson halfway though the first period.

Findlay scored the tying goal early in the third, on a wrist shot just to the right of the crease.

The Everblades reclaimed the lead less than two minutes later, when Gimblett hammered a one-timer into the net from the point to put the score at 4-3.

With less than five minutes remaining, Cepis struck again when he slipped a shot past York to even the game up at four to force overtime.

Both teams had their chances in the extra session, but neither team could seal it to send the game to the shootout.

Orlando’s Brett Findlay and Denver Manderson scored in the first two rounds of the shootout while the ‘Blades failed to record a goal as the Solar Bears secured the 5-4 shootout victory.

The Everblades posted a season high 51 shots, but Bonar earned the win stopping 38 of 40 shots, while Patterson stopped 9 of 11 shots faced.  York takes the loss allowing four goals on 28 shots.
