Everblades Sting Rays 6-3 for Road Win

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC –  Corey Trivino scored twice, while Allen York made 32 saves to lift the Florida Everblades to an impressive 6-3 victory over the South Carolina Stingrays at the North Charleston Coliseum Friday night.

Making his Everblades debut, forward Chris Kushneriuk wasted little time netting his first goal. On his first shift of the season, Kushneriuk picked up a rebound in the slot from an Adam Brace shot, and wristed the puck right past Stingrays netminder Adam Morrison to give the ‘Blades a 1-0 lead at 2:14 of the opening period.

The Stingrays knotted the game at one at 4:19 of the second period on Wayne Simpson’s first of the year.   Simpson fielded a stretch pass into the zone and broke in on goal.  Simpson deked to the backhand and cleanly beat goaltender Allen York for the goal.

The Everblades grabbed the lead right back at the 7:36 mark thanks to the efforts of another newcomer Corey Trivino.  Trivino who was reacquired by Florida earlier in the week, scored his first goal of the season after batting in a rebound off an Adam Brace shot on net.

A little more than a minute later, Michal Cajovsky’s stick broke.  As the South Carolina defender dropped his stick, he ended up tossing in front of the track of Trevino for potential breakaway chance.  As a result, Trivino was awarded a penalty shot, and beat Morrison on a patient backhand shot for his second strike of the game.

Florida extended its lead by three after a faceoff win in the offensive zone. Florida worked the puck up to Tyson Gimblett at the point.  Gimblett unleashed a one-timer that ripped past Morrison for the goal to put the ‘Blades ahead  by a 4-1 cont.

Late in the middle frame, the Stingrays converted on the power play on a goal from Joe Devin to pull the Rays within two after 40 minutes played.

The ‘Blades  continued their assault in the third as Mike Little notched his first goal of the season, while Gabriel Desjardins added a power play goal to give Florida a commanding 6-2 third period lead.South Carolina added a third goal with nine seconds remaining form Brandon Gracel, but it would not be enough as the Everblades secured the 6-3 victory.

Allen York earned the win stopping 32 of 35 shots face, while Morrison take the loss allowing six goals on 34 shots faced.

The Everblades will close out their two-game weekend road swing on Saturday with a 7:05 p.m. affair with the Gwinnett Gladiators,

GAME NOTES: Corey Trivino finished the game with two goals an +4 rating… Joe Devin’s second period power play goal for South Carolina was the first power play tally allowed by the Everblades since opening on October 17 (vs. South Carolina).
