Brace's Shorthanded Goal in Overtime Caps Off 'Blades Rally

ORLANDO, FL – Adam Brace’s shorthanded goal at 2:30 of overtime sealed a 3-2 come-from-behind victory by the Florida Everblades over the Orlando Solar Bears Sunday afternoon at the Amway Center. After a scoreless first period of play, the Solar Bears took advantage of an Everblades turnover in their own end at 3:24 of the second period.  Kristoff Kontos took the misplayed puck on a breakaway and fired a wrist shot past the blocker of Everblades goaltender Allen York for the goal.

Nearly five minutes later, Orlando struck again.  Bryce Aneloski blasted a slapshot from the high slot which was stopped by York.  The rebound was knocked around and  the puck bounced to York’s right.  The puck was shuffle boarded in with one arm by Greg Miller on the shortside post to give the Solar Bears the 2-0 lead through 40 minutes of play.

The Everblades continued to fight in the third, and got on the board at 4:17 of the period on a goal by Gabriel Desjardins to pull the Everblades within one.

Desjardins’ goal ignited the ‘Blades offensively, as Florida outshot Orlando 17-5 in the final stanza of regulation.  One of those shots was buried into the net by Evan Bloodoff, who shoved a rebound off a Kevin Lynch shot for the tying goal at 13:37. The two teams skated the remainder of regulation without anymore scoring to send the game to overtime.

Both teams exchanged scoring chances in the extra session.  Orlando was awarded a power play when Desjardins was called for tripping.  However, on the ensuing penalty kill, Adam Brace (pictured above) grabbed a loose puck from errant pass just outside his own blue  line and charged back into the Orlando end.  Brace patiently carried the puck to the slot, used the defenseman as a screen and fired a wrist shot that cleanly beat Orlando netminder Kent Patterson for the shorthanded game-winning goal in overtime.

York gets the win in net stopping 24 of 26 shots faced, while Patterson take the loss allowing three goals on 37 shots.  Patterson entered the game at 4:57 of the first period when starting goaltender Garrett Sparks left the game with an injury.

The two teams will meet again at the Amway Center on Friday (October 31st beginning at 7:30 p.m.
