Gwinnett, GA – Fresh off a big road win at Greenville, the Florida Everblades are set to wrap up their 2014-opening road trip with a 7:05pm date at The Arena at Gwinnett Center against the Gwinnett Gladiators.
It is the first meeting between the two South Division foes since they split a two-game set at The Arena in mid-November with the Gladiators claiming a 5-4 thriller on November 14 before the Blades smothered the home side with a 3-0 shutout on the next night.
Florida enters Saturday on a high note, shaking off a two-goal third period deficit Friday to shock the Greenville Road Warriors 3-2 in overtime. Team captain Mathieu Roy extended his personal points streak to four games (4g, 2a) with a goal and an assist in the win.
That point streak has pushed Roy (262) past Ernie Hartlieb (258) into third place on the all-time Everblades points list. He now sits 57 points behind Reggie Berg’s all-time franchise record of 319.
The Gladiators return home with momentum of their own, blanking the league-leading South Carolina Stingrays 4-0 Friday in North Charleston to pick up their fourth win in six games and pull to within seven points of playoff position in the Eastern Conference chase.
Forward Evan Bloodoff has been a big part of the Glads’ recent success, putting up five goals and an assist in his last eight games to pace Gwinnett’s offense.
Saturday’s border skirmish will be broadcast live online at FloridaEverblades.com and on the Everblades’ app for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, with a video webcast available through America ONE, the official broadband and mobile broadcaster of the ECHL, at www.americaonesports.com. Pregame coverage will get under way at 6:50pm.
