Blades Sign Henry, Receive Nielsen from AHL Syracuse

Estero, FL – Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush, along with Head Coach Greg Poss, announced Wednesday that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Jordan Henry for the upcoming 2013-14 season and that defenseman Carl Nielsen has been reassigned to the team by the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League.

Henry, 27, played 20 games for the Oklahoma City Barons of the AHL during the 2012-13 campaign, registering two assists on the blue line. In all, he’s played 282 career games with 68 points (22g, 46a) at the AHL level between Oklahoma City, the Rochester Americans, Abbotsford Heat and Chicago Wolves.

“Jordan is productive two-way defenseman with years of AHL experience,” stated Poss, who begins his fourth year behind the Blades’ bench later this month, “and he’s also familiar with our situation, having played here a few years ago. We expect him to provide scoring and leadership on the back end.”

During the 2007-08 season, Henry—from Milo, Alberta—played 20 games for the Everblades, tallying two goals and two assists with a plus-one rating.

Nielsen, 25, comes to the Blades after appearing in two games for the Crunch following the conclusion of the 2012-13 NCAA hockey season, which he spent playing for the Michigan Tech Huskies of the WCHA.

“Carl tested as one of the best-conditioned players at the Tampa Bay Lightning camp,” noted Poss. “He’s got a lot of size, is a very strong skater and will always defend his teammates on the ice.”

In 140 career appearances with the Huskies, the 6-foot-4, 225-pound native of Lorain, Ohio, contributed 20 points (4g, 16a).
