Roy Returns for Sixth Season With 'Blades

ESTERO, FL – Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush along with Head Coach Greg Poss announced Tuesday that the team has agreed to terms with forward Mathieu Roy for the 2013-14 season.

Roy, 26, returns for his sixth season with the Everblades after winning the ECHL scoring title last season with a career best 89 points (38g, 51a) and a plus-18 rating.  The 6-0, 196-pound forward also tallied 13 points (8g, 5a) in 13 playoff appearances last spring.  In addition, he logged three assists in three games played with the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League. Last season Roy was the recipient of several league honors which included being named to the All-ECHL First Team, and was twice named ECHL Player of the Month for February and March.

“Mathieu is the leader of our team both on and off the ice, and we expect him to continue his leadership role this season,” said Everblades Head Coach Greg Poss. “He is a guy who can play in any game situation, and he is coming off his best professional season having won the league scoring title.  We expect another good year from him again this year.”

The Amos, Quebec, native has 281 points (123g,158a) in 393 career ECHL games with Pensacola and Florida and has added 30 points (17g, 13a) in 44 Kelly Cup Playoffs games. He helped lead the Everblades to a Kelly Cup Championship in 2012.

Roy has amassed 316 career points in four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League while with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and the Val d’Or Foreurs.  His junior career was highlighted with a 104-point mark with the Titan during the 2005-06 season.
