ESTERO, FL – Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush along with Head Coach Greg Poss announced Tuesday that the team has agreed to terms with forwards Trevor Bruess and Evan Chlanda for the 2013-14 season.
Bruess, 27, returns to the Everblades after missing much of last season with an injury, which limited him to just 8 games played (2g, 3a). Despite this, Bruess still was the recipient of the team’s Piper Buckley Community Service award for his contributions to the communities of Southwest Florida.
Bruess totaled 40 points (18g, 22a) along with 86 penalty minutes, and a plus-15 rating during the 2011-12 season, while adding 12 points in 18 playoff appearances to help lead the ‘Blades to a Kelly Cup Championship.
“We are glad to have Trevor back for the upcoming season” said Everblades head Coach Greg Poss. “He was injured last year, but he is a tenacious two-way center. While injured, he assisted the coaching staff throughout the year in developing faceoff strategies for the team.”
Prior to Florida, the 6-0, 192-pound gritty forward spent two seasons in the Washington Capitals affiliation system with the Hershey Bears (AHL) and the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL). He registered five assists and 76 penalty minutes in 36 appearances with Hershey during the 2010-11 season. The previous year, he logged a goal and an assist in 14 games with the Bears, while also adding 25 points (8g, 17a) and 76 penalty minutes in 46 games played with the Stingrays.
The Minneapolis, Minnesota native played three seasons at Minnesota State University- Mankato totaling 61 career points (24g, 37a) and 273 penalty minutes.
Chlanda, 25, heads to Florida after spending the past four seasons at Utica College. The 6-4, 216-pound forward captained the Pioneerslast season, while posting 19 points (4g, 15a) in 27 appearances. The Islip, New York native accumulated 93 points (40g, 53a) during his four-year collegiate career, which included a career best 34-point season in 2011-12.
"Evan is a big power forward, who was a standout player at Utica.” said Poss. “We expect him to be a good player here at the pro level.”
