Trivino’s Hat Trick Leads ‘Blades to 8-3 Victory over Orlando

ORLANDO, FL – Corey Trivino netted a hat trick, while Mathieu Roy finished with five points to lead to lift the Florida Everblades to an 8-3 victory over the Orlando Solar Bears at the Amway Center Tuesday night.

Orlando got on the board first at 4:26 of the opening period. Brett Hartung fed a pass from the boards all the way to the backside of the crease to Michael Neal. Neal reached out to tap the puck just enough to slide it behind ‘Blades goaltender Jesse Deckert to give the Solar Bears a 1-0 advantage.

Just 90 seconds later the Everblades netted the equalizer. Corey Trivino fielded the puck the left side of the Orlando net.  Trivino flipped the puck in front which clipped off a defenseman’s body and bounced high into the net to tie the game at one after the first period played.

Florida took the lead five minutes into the second on the power play.  Captain Mathieu Roy took a shot from the top of the crease which was stopped by Orlando goaltender Patrick Killeen. Roy was knocked down, and while following was able to swipe at the rebound and slide it into the net for the go-ahead goal.

Three minutes later, newcomer Adam Brace grabbed the puck behind the net and attempted a wrap around shot on the backhand. The puck stalled in the crease, but Brace attempted a second backhanded swipe at the puck and shoved into the back of the net for the goal to extend the Florida lead to 3-1 at the end of 40 minutes played. The goal was the first of the career for Brace who was playing in his first pro game.

Florida added to its lead less than two minutes into the third, on Trivino’s second goal of the game.  Trivino picked the puck in the slot and wristed it into the Orlando net to give the Everblades a three goal lead.

The Solar Bears pulled back within two on the second goal of the game by Neal at 7:11 of the period.

However, the Everblades responded just 12 seconds later. Off the ensuing faceoff, David Rutherford received the puck and skated down the wing into the zone. Rutherford blasted a slapshot from the right wing circle which ripped past Killeen to extend the lead to 5-2.

Orlando once again leaned on Neal to provide offense.  Neal received a cross-crease pass on the backside of the net, and squeezed a backhanded shot underneath the glove of Deckert for the goal to complete the hat trick and once again pull the Solar Bears within two.

The Everblades once again quelled the Solar Bear momentum with another quick strike. From the corner, Brandon MacLean skated to the top of the crease and swung the puck around Killeen on the backhand to put Florida back on top b y three.

The Everblades recorded their seventh goal of the game on a power play marker by Roy. Roy caught the puck on the backhand and attempted to slide a pass across the crease, but the puck caught the pad of Killeen and redirected between his legs and across the goaline.

Florida capped off the scoring with its third power play goal of the game. A textbook passing play by Roy and Pistilli set up Corey Trivino for a goal on the backside of the net to complete his first career hat trick at 16:25 of the period to seal the 8-3 victory.

Deckert improves to 6-1-0-1, stopping 22 of 25 shots faced, while Killeen take the loss allowing eight goals on 35 shots faced.

GAME NOTES: Trivino finished the game with four points (3g, 1a), while his line mates also excelled as Pistilli logged four assists, and Roy with five points (2g, 3a). Roy continues to lead the league in scoring with 82 points.  The trio combined for 13 points in the game….Forward Anthony Hayes logged an assist in the game to register his first pro point…Adam Brace opened his professional debut with a goal and an assist.
