ESTERO, Fla. – Mathieu Roy posted a goal and an assist, and Matthew Pisitlli logged three asissts as the the Florida Everblades cruise to a 5-2 victory over the Trenton Titans Wednesday night at Germain Arena.
The ‘Blades managed to get on board first at 13:51 of the first period. Mathieu Roy picked up a rebound in front, from a shot that was taken from the right circle. Roy slipped the puck past Titan’s goaltender Scott Wedgewood at the top right corner of the crease scoring the first goal of the night. The ‘Blades closed out the first period taking a 1-0 lead.
In the second period, Florida scored its second goal on a 2-on-1 rush. Brody Sutter accepted a pass from Roy and swung the puck around Wedgewood at the right side of the crease for the goal to put the score at 2-0.
Shortly after, the ‘Blades scored again on another 2-ion-1 rush while on the penalty kill. Matt Marquardt slid the puck across the slot to Matthew Pistilli on the left wing side. Pistilli returned the puck back to Marquardt on the backside of the crease, and it was shoved home for the goal to extend the lead to 3-0. The shorthanded goal was the 7th of the season for the Everblades.
The ‘Blades took advantage of a power play opportunity with three minutes remaining in the second when Alex Hutchings picked up a rebound at the circle, and drove the puck into thee net to make the score 4-0 at the end of the second period.
Florida started the third period with a 5-on-3 power play. It took just 40 seconds for Florida to score. Ryan McGinnis fired a slapshot from the top of the slot which was stopped by Wedgewoood. Irwin grabbed the rebound and slid it into the net to secure the goal to put the score to 5-0.
Finally breaking the long silence, the Titans respond on their end when Connor Goggin shot from the top of the right circle clipped past ‘Blades goaltender Pat Nagle for the goal. Nagle posted close to 54 minutes of shutout hockey until Goggin’s goal.
Moments later, Mike Ullrich slipped another shot past Nagle in front for the Titans second goal. The ‘Blades ended up taking the victory over the Titans with a 5-2 win.
Nagle earns the win stopping 35 of 37 shots faced while Wedgewood suffered the loss allowing five goals on 42 shots faced.
The two teams will meet again Friday night at Germain Arena beginning at 7:30 p.m. Don’t forget to wear red for our “Wear Red Day” to benefit the American Heart Association.
