GLENS FALLS, NY – Terrence Wallin had two goals and an assist while Brian Ward added a goal and two assists to lead the Adirondack Thunder (23-17-1-2, 47 pts) to a 4-2 win over the Florida Everblades (29-8-1-2, 61 pts) Wednesday night at the Cool Insuring Arena. It was the first time the Everblades have lost back-to-back games in regulation all season.
Capitalizing on a great pass, Steven Lorentz gave the ‘Blades an early 1-0 lead. In the offensive zone, Joe Cox prevented the Thunder from clearing the puck before flipping a pass back into the slot. Lorentz grabbed the pass and quickly deked to the backhand and sliced his shot right past Adirondack goaltender Drew Fielding.
The lead did not last long as the Thunder tied the score at 1-1 just over two-minutes later. Brian Ward fired a shot from high in the zone and towards a screened Martin Ouellette. The puck deflected off the stick of Terrence Walli and had just enough momentum to trickle across the line for a goal.
Mitchell Heard gave the ‘Blades a 2-1 lead late in the first period. On the penalty kill, Joe Cox managed to force a turnover inside the neutral zone. Cox got the puck over to Heard who deked to the backhand before firing his shot into the top corner of the net.
In the second period, Adirondack tied the score at 2-2, as Paul Rodrigues took advantage of a second chance opportunity. Mathieu Brodeur fired a shot that was initially saved by Martin Ouellette. However, the rebound would fall right at the feet of Rodrigues who quickly batted the puck into the net.
Terrence Wallin gave the Thunder their first lead of the game less than five-minutes later. After forcing a turnover, James Henry brought the puck down into the corner before throwing a pass towards the slot. Wallin collected the puck andc ripped his low shot off the pads of Martin Ouellette and into the back of the net.
Adirondack took a 4-2 lead midway through the final frame. Upping the pressure around the Florida net, Terrence Wallin batted the puck from the left side to the right side of the crease. The puck took a funny bounce and was quickly buried into the open net by an onrushing Brian Ward.
Drew Fielding played extremely well in goal for Adirondack, earning the win after stopping 35 of the 37 shots he faced. Martin Ouellette suffers the loss in goal for the Everblades, allowing four goals on 22 shots.
